It's definitely a change. The frontal image, the CNN quality, the robotic characters. The opening moments of Rumours, co-directed by Canadian Guy Maddin ( Winnipeg, my love ) and his colleagues Evan Johnson ( The Forbidden Room ) and Galen Johnson, must have disoriented fans of his dreamlike and expressionist cinema, a stream of consciousness filled with cinephilia and shots shot with a camera covered in Vaseline. But for his first " normie " (understand, "normal" film) Guy Maddin hit the nail on the head, delivering a hilarious political farce that is still marked by the dreamy lurches and sudden breaks in tone that have made his mark. The seven G7 leaders are meeting in Germany to try to resolve a serious and unspeakable crisis, but are struggling to even write a "declaration of intent" and are constantly boasting about their own importance, throwing out ready-made phrases like "bilateral management" and "global jurisdiction" before being int
